Continental, a leading automotive supplier, has announced its collaboration with Nvidia to develop full-scale autonomous driving systems. These advanced systems will be based on Nvidia’s DRIVE autonomous vehicle platform and are set to launch by 2021.
The partnership between the two companies will bring together dedicated engineering teams from both sides. The Continental AV system will leverage technologies such as Nvidia’s DRIVE Xavier system-on-a-chip, DRIVE OS, and DRIVE AV software offerings. Additionally, Continental will contribute its expertise in ASIL-D security certification and supply radar, camera, and LiDAR sensor solutions.
Pursuing a complete range of autonomy from Levels 2 through 5, Continental’s offering aims to cater to advanced cruise control features like Tesla’s Autopilot, Nissan’s PROPilot, and GM’s SuperCruise all the way up to true self-driving vehicles with no steering wheel or gas/brake pedal required.
The partnership between Nvidia and Continental expands upon an already extensive network of partnerships within the industry. However, this collaboration is expected to greatly benefit Continental in its long-term positioning in the autonomous vehicle market.
