Markus Fuhrmann, a serial entrepreneur with deep roots in innovative housing solutions, is spearheading an ambitious plan to rebuild Ukraine—faster, smarter, and more sustainably. His startup, Gropyus, combines robotics, prefabrication, and smart technology to transform the construction industry. Now, Gropyus is partnering with One Ukraine to pilot 50–100 smart apartments, funded entirely by private investors.
“We can build sustainable housing quickly and affordably,” Fuhrmann explains. “This is exactly what Ukraine needs.”
Investor Confidence and Scaling Up
The recent funding round, led by Semapa and Practical Venture Capital, brings Gropyus’ total raised capital to €300 million. Ricardo Pires, CEO of Semapa, praised the startup’s “innovative, sustainable, and digital concept” as a game-changer for urban living.
Expansion Plans:
- A €40 million venture debt loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) will expand Gropyus’ German factory.
- By late 2024, the facility will produce wall/ceiling elements in 16 minutes, with 86% automation.
