Breaking Down Intel’s Diversity Initiatives
Pay and Promotion Parity Achievements
Intel has reached several critical milestones:
✔ 100% pay parity for women and underrepresented minorities in the U.S.
✔ Promotion parity achieved for these groups
✔ Diverse employee retention rates exceeded majority counterparts
“We hit our year-end goal of achieving 100 percent pay parity for both women and underrepresented minorities,” said Danielle Brown, Intel’s Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer.
Innovative Support Programs
Intel implemented several key programs to support diversity:
- WarmLine Service: Career guidance program used by 1,200+ employees since 2016 launch
- Multicultural Retention Study: Surveyed 15,000 employees to identify barriers
- Diversity Playbooks: Customized inclusion guides for each business unit
Leadership Representation Gains
The company has made notable progress at executive levels:
- 5 women promoted to Intel Fellow (top technical leadership role)
- 41% of newly appointed U.S. vice presidents are women or underrepresented minorities
- Improved diversity across all career stages from entry-level to leadership
Looking Ahead to 2020 Goals
While celebrating progress, Intel acknowledges more work remains:
“There’s still much work to be done to achieve our 2020 goal of full representation,” Brown noted, particularly regarding:
- Increasing underrepresented minority representation
- Addressing retention challenges
- Continuing leadership development programs
Beyond Workforce Diversity
Intel’s commitment extends to broader inclusion efforts:
- $125 million diversity fund for startups with diverse leadership
- $555 million spent with diverse-owned suppliers (surpassing $400M target)
- Hack Harassment initiatives combatting online abuse
“Intel firmly believes that reaching a critical mass of women and underrepresented minorities… brings ample benefits not only to Intel but the entire tech industry,” Brown emphasized.
