Netgear Announces Plan to Spin Off its Successful Arlo Security Camera Business

RICHMOND, Virginia - Netgear announced this afternoon that it plans to spin off its successful Arlo wing into a standalone public company as part of an IPO (Initial Public Offering). The networking hardware giant’s board of directors has unanimously approved the decision and plans to have the separation completed by the second half of this year.

Netgear SVP to Step in as CEO of Newly Formed Company

Once completed, Netgear SVP will step in as the CEO of the newly formed company, which is set to be a significant promotion for the executive who joined four months ago.

Arlo’s Financial Success and Competitive Market Environment

The security camera line has been a big bright spot for the company since launch, as recent earnings reports have singled it out as a driving force in Netgear’s financial successes, even though the rest of its business remained somewhat flat.

However, the connected security camera space is becoming increasingly competitive with startups like Canary and larger players such as Google (through Nest Cam) and Amazon entering the category. The Arlo family has grown rapidly at a clip including LTE-enabled outdoor cameras and Arlo Baby.

Netgear’s Competitive Advantage in the Connected Home Market

Netgear is expected to continue leveraging its expertise in networking hardware to stay ahead of compe*****s, with an eye towards capitalizing on growth opportunities within the connected home market.
