Farsight: Revolutionizing Battlefield Awareness
Founded in 2018, Reveal Technology has developed Farsight, a flagship software that transforms drone footage into real-time 3D maps accessible via smartphone. This technology is already in use by the U.S. Army, Special Operations Command, Marine Corps, and allied militaries, offering a significant upgrade over traditional 2D maps derived from outdated satellite imagery.

From Battlefield to Startup Success
Smith’s transition from military service to entrepreneurship began at Stanford University, where he recognized the potential of commercial drones and smartphones. “The convergence of affordable hardware and advanced software presented a unique opportunity,” he notes. Reveal’s team, including three co-founders, leveraged this insight to create Farsight, which now also features:
- Adversary Simulation: Models enemy sightlines.
- Route Planning: Optimizes navigation in complex terrains.
- Analytics Tools: Measures distances, heights, and other critical metrics.
Expanding the Product Lineup
Reveal further bolstered its offerings by acquiring DFL Technology, integrating its Identifi platform—a smartphone-based biometrics system for human identification. While Farsight focuses on physical terrain, Identifi addresses the “human terrain,” rounding out Reveal’s mission to deliver tactical edge solutions.
Investor Confidence and Future Goals
The startup recently closed an $11.2 million Series A round, led by Next Frontier Capital with participation from defy.vc and 8VC. The funding will accelerate team growth and product development, cementing Reveal’s ambition to “dominate the mobile and edge space” for military applications.
“Our goal is to reduce the cognitive load on operators,” Smith emphasizes. “With the right tools, we can empower faster, smarter decisions in life-or-death situations.”
