Based in Yekaterinburg, Russia, Galanin operates as a one-man studio, channeling Kafka’s signature themes of absurdity and existential uncertainty into his game. Rather than adapting a specific Kafka novel, Galanin crafted an original narrative that captures the essence of the author’s work.

A veteran with 14 years in game development, Galanin has worn many hats—from lead designer to scriptwriter. Since 2008, he’s worked independently, earning acclaim for titles like Hamlet or the Last Game without MMORPG Features, Shaders, and Product Placement, which won Best iOS Game at Macworld Expo 2011.
Interestingly, The Franz Kafka Videogame was born from pure improvisation. Galanin revealed:
“The game is total improvisation—no plans, no design document. The plot and puzzles emerged organically during development. I call it improvisational game design.”

Originally slated for a 2014 release, the game faced delays that extended its development timeline. While it offers a short but surreal gameplay experience (clocking in at a few hours), critics have been mixed, with Metacritic averaging a score of 65⁄100.
