Jay Hack, an AI researcher specializing in natural language processing and computer vision, recognized years ago that large language models (LLMs) like OpenAI’s GPT-4 could dramatically boost developer productivity by converting natural language instructions into functional code.
After stints at Palantir as a machine learning engineer and founding Mira (an AI-driven cosmetics shopping startup), Hack turned his attention to leveraging LLMs for automating pull requests - the critical process of merging code changes into main repositories. This experimentation evolved into Codegen, a platform designed to automate repetitive software engineering tasks through advanced AI.
“Codegen eliminates the grunt work of software development by deploying AI agents to handle code implementation,” Hack explained in an interview with TechCrunch. “Our platform accelerates development cycles, reduces technical debt, and lets companies focus on innovation rather than maintenance.”

While tools like GitHub Copilot and Amazon CodeWhisperer focus on code autocompletion, Codegen tackles more complex, codebase-wide challenges:
