Cooliris Teams Up with Renren to Launch Localized Photo App in China
Backed by Kleiner Perkins, Cooliris is making strategic moves in international expansion with the launch of a localized photo-browsing app in China. To accelerate adoption, the company has partnered with Renren, China’s leading social network often dubbed the “Facebook of China”.
A Strategic Push into the Chinese Market
Sebastian Blum, Cooliris’s VP of International Development, emphasized that China has been a key growth priority. While the app was already accessible in the region, the localized version—combined with Renren’s integration—is expected to significantly boost engagement.
- Renren Integration: Users can now seamlessly browse and share photos from Renren within the Cooliris app.
- Cross-Promotion: Renren will actively promote Cooliris to its vast user base, enhancing visibility.
A Blueprint for Global Expansion
This marks Cooliris’s first major partnership of this kind, but CEO Soujanya Bhumkar sees it as a replicable model for future international growth. The company has already seen impressive traction, topping Apple’s Lifestyle app charts in 75 countries.
“This is one of many partnerships we will be announcing,” Bhumkar stated, hinting at further collaborations.
