Elvie’s $6M Funding Boost: A Leap Forward for Femtech Innovation
London-based femtech startup Elvie has raised $6 million in new funding to advance its mission of transforming women’s pelvic health through smart technology. The investment will fuel global expansion and the launch of a second wearable device by year-end.
Why Pelvic Floor Health Matters
Pelvic floor muscles play a critical role in women’s overall well-being, impacting core stability, bladder control, and sexual health. Weakness or dysfunction in these muscles—often caused by pregnancy, childbirth, or menopause—can lead to urinary incontinence and other issues.
“When healthy and toned, the pelvic floor lifts and holds your core, assists with bladder control, and contributes to sexual satisfaction,” explains Tania Boler, Elvie’s CEO and co-founder (previously of Jawbone).
How Elvie’s Smart Kegel Tracker Works
Elvie’s flagship product is a silicone, pod-shaped wearable that:
- Tracks muscle movements via force and motion sensors during Kegel exercises
- Syncs wirelessly to iOS/Android apps via Bluetooth
- Provides real-time feedback through gamified visuals (e.g., lifting a gem on-screen based on squeeze strength)
“It’s intimate technology—like a Fitbit for your pelvic floor,” Boler describes.

Clinical Backing and Market Traction
Developed with doctors, physiotherapists, and data scientists, Elvie offers personalized training programs. Priced at $200, the tracker is sold in 59 markets through:
- Elvie’s website
- Amazon
- Specialty retailers like Goop and Violet Grey
High-profile users include actresses Gwyneth Paltrow and January Jones, while hospitals like Portland Hospital (UK) and Mount Sinai (US) recommend the device.
The Growing Femtech Opportunity
Elvie operates in the expanding femtech sector, though CEO Boler notes persistent challenges:
“Too often, ‘women’s issues’ are neglected. I’ve been told pelvic health is ‘niche’—but how can half the population’s needs be niche?”
While digital femtech apps like Clue (Germany) and Natural Cycles (Sweden) attract funding, Boler emphasizes the untapped potential of women’s health wearables:
“Most wearables for women focus on aesthetics. The real opportunity is using tech to radically improve health outcomes.”
Investor Confidence and Future Plans
The funding round was led by Octopus Ventures, with participation from female-focused VC AllBright. Total funding now reaches $8.6 million since Elvie’s 2013 founding.
The capital will support:
- Expansion into 25 additional countries across North America, Europe, and Asia
- Development of a second wearable device (launching late 2023)
With 20 employees and growing, Elvie is poised to redefine women’s health technology—one smart device at a time.
