Embeddable: The Selective Approach of a High-Demand Analytics Startup

From Internal BI to Customer-Facing Analytics

Founded in 2016 by Tom Gardiner and Harry Marshall, Trevor.io began as a no-code business intelligence platform designed to help non-technical teams analyze internal data. However, customer demand soon shifted the company’s trajectory.

“We initially resisted building a new product,” Gardiner, now CEO of Embeddable, told TechCrunch. “But when enterprise clients started knocking, we knew we had to pivot.”

The Birth of Embeddable

Embeddable emerged as the solution—a developer toolkit for creating interactive, customized analytics dashboards without coding. Key features include:

  • Community-driven template library (similar to Notion or Airbyte)
  • Focus on scaling existing analytics rather than starting from scratch
  • Flexible design approach inspired by gaming engines like Unity

“We empower creativity,” Gardiner explained. “Our tools provide the foundation while letting clients control the presentation.”

Strategic Customer Selection

Despite overwhelming interest, Embeddable maintains strict selectivity:

  • 800+ applicants since December 2023 private beta launch
  • Fewer than 100 companies accepted
  • $100,000+ in new monthly revenue

“We meticulously vet each applicant,” said Marshall, COO. “Our focus remains on perfecting the developer experience for ideal use cases.”

Funding and Future Plans

The London-based startup recently secured:

  • €6 million ($6.29M) seed round
  • Led by OpenOcean with participation from Four Rivers and Techstars

Funds will support:

  1. Team expansion
  2. Template library growth
  3. New go-to-market strategies

The Road Ahead

Current growth comes primarily from SEO as companies seek alternatives to Tableau and Power BI. While the selective approach works now, Embeddable plans to:

  • Launch general sign-up by end of 2025
  • Introduce more self-service customization in Q1 2026

“We’re already winning customers from industry giants,” Gardiner noted. “That validation confirms we’re solving real pain points.”
