Ford EV Owners Gain Access to 15,000+ Tesla Superchargers Nationwide
A Landmark Partnership Comes to Life
Nine months after Ford and Tesla announced their groundbreaking charging agreement, Ford electric vehicle (EV) owners can now access over 15,000 Tesla Superchargers across the U.S. and Canada. This strategic partnership marks a significant shift in EV infrastructure and sets the stage for broader industry adoption of Tesla’s charging standard.
How Ford Drivers Can Access Tesla Superchargers
- Free Adapter Offer: Current and new Ford EV owners enrolled in Ford’s BlueOval Charge Network can request a complimentary adapter by June 30, 2024 at Ford.com/FastChargingAdapter
- Future Purchases: After the promotion ends, adapters will be available for $230
- Seamless Integration: Upcoming software updates will enable Tesla Supercharger locations to appear in:
- Ford’s built-in navigation
- Apple CarPlay
- Android Auto
The Rapid Rise of Tesla’s Charging Standard
Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) has achieved remarkable industry adoption since its November 2022 introduction:
- May 2023: Ford becomes first major automaker to adopt NACS
- June 2023: GM follows Ford’s lead
- Subsequent Months: Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, VW Group (including Porsche, Audi), and finally Stellantis join the standard
What This Means for EV Owners
Benefits of NACS Adoption:
- Expanded Charging Access: Dramatically increases available fast-charging locations
- Superior Technology: Tesla’s compact connector supports up to 1 MW DC charging
- Streamlined Experience: “Plug and charge” capability eliminates payment friction
Important Considerations:
- Not All Superchargers Available: Some Tesla locations remain exclusive to Tesla vehicles
- Payment Integration: FordPass App and in-vehicle Charge Assist App handle transactions
The Future of EV Charging
With all major U.S. automakers now committed to NACS, Ford’s implementation serves as the first real-world test of cross-brand Supercharger usage. This collaboration represents a significant step toward standardized, accessible EV charging infrastructure across North America.
Starting in 2025, Ford plans to integrate Tesla’s charge port directly into its next-generation EVs, including upcoming electric trucks and SUVs, further simplifying the charging experience for future owners.
