Google Labs has unveiled GenChess, an innovative web experiment that merges AI creativity with the timeless game of chess. Powered by Gemini Imagen 3, Google’s advanced image-generation model, this tool lets players design fully customized chess sets using simple text prompts.
How GenChess Works
- Sign In & Generate: Users log in with a Gmail account and click the “Generate” button to create their ideal chess set.
- Text-Based Customization: Enter a theme (e.g., “sushi” or “pizza”) and choose between two styles:
- Classic: Traditional chess-inspired designs
- Creative: Abstract, AI-generated interpretations
- Refine Your Pieces: Edit individual pieces with additional prompts if the initial results don’t match your vision.
Gameplay Features
Once the set is ready, players can:
- Generate an AI Opponent: The system pairs your custom set with a themed rival (e.g., a taco-themed set against your sushi design).
- Adjust Difficulty: Choose from three levels (easy, medium, hard) and two timer options (5⁄3 or 10⁄0).
