Outbrain, the company known for distributing clickbait articles and ads on various websites, has announced the launch of a premium publisher network called Sphere. The network is designed to enable high-quality publishers to share each other’s content with their audiences in an exclusive environment.
Onstage at Code Media conference, Outbrain CEO Yaron Galai revealed that the company will initially invite premier web sites such as CNN, Getty Images, Time Magazine, and Meredith to join Sphere. Over time, more quality publishers will be added to the network.
Sphere is an ‘editorial only’ network, meaning it focuses solely on top-quality content from around the best websites on the web. This move aims to drive greater user engagement and steer them away from advertising vacuums such as Facebook and Google.
To reward engagement with users, Sphere will use a different algorithm that drives deeper engagement for participating publishers. The new tool will financially incentivize longer visits on site.
