Red Dead Redemption Mod Brings the Wild West to GTA V on PC
For years, PC gamers have clamored for an official port of Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar Games’ beloved Wild West adventure. Yet, with no official release in sight, the modding community has taken matters into their own hands—by bringing the entire game into Grand Theft Auto V.
A Fan-Made Frontier
A dedicated team of modders, primarily from the GTA Mods forums on GTAForums.com, is developing Red Dead Redemption V—a full-scale mod that transplants the 2010 Western classic into GTA V’s engine. Using a custom toolkit called .White, the team is converting Red Dead Redemption’s map, assets, and gameplay mechanics into Rockstar’s modern open-world framework.
“Our goal is to bring you the full map with additional content which will be unveiled later on,” explains modder Jestic in a forum post. “RDR is the toughest [Rockstar game] to crack, so please be patient.”
Why Now?
The project has been in development for four years, with much of that time spent refining the .White toolkit. According to lead developer Mr. Leisurewear, the timing aligns with the framework’s maturity:
“We wanted it to be timed right, but it’s mostly about the toolkit’s readiness. Now, we only need minor adjustments to port everything over.”
What to Expect
- Full Map Conversion: The mod aims to recreate Red Dead Redemption’s vast landscapes within GTA V.
- Additional Content: The team hints at unannounced extras beyond the base game.
- Summer 2024 Target: An initial release is planned for this summer, with a teaser trailer in the works.
