If you’ve ever tried to collaborate on a document or any kind of note with coworkers, you likely use tools like Dropbox Paper or Google Docs. While these platforms are great for customer-facing documents, they don’t provide the same simplicity when it comes to team collaboration.

This is where Slite, a new notes tool specifically designed for teams, steps in. Started about a year and a half ago by Christophe Pasquier and his team, Slite aims to rethink what a simple notes app looks like for internal usage. The platform is launching out of Y Combinator’s winter 2018 class.

Pasquier explains that while Google Docs and Dropbox Paper are customer-facing documents, they aren’t easily maintainable. With Slite, the team wanted to create a simple notes app where teams can come in and create documents for internal use without having to send links around to each other. Think of it as a new way to mark up an internal onboarding manual or an internal contact list.

One challenge with existing platforms is ensuring that teams check these kinds of notes or documents on a regular basis. Pasquier says the idea behind Slite is to make employees automatically aware of where they can find the information they need within the company.

The platform also has potential beyond just team onboarding. Customer success teams at larger companies could use it as a hub for company updates and keeping their team up to date - whether that’s with what’s in progress, known bugs, or anything else related to the project.

Pasquier tries to distance Slite from comparisons to Google Docs and Dropbox Paper, but those comparisons are not far off. Platforms like Coda are also looking to rethink the way word documents should exist. However, by focusing on a vertical they think they can chip away at, Pasquier believes they’ll have a shot at growing into something more robust.
