Tier and Dott Complete Merger, Rebrand as Single Micromobility Platform

Two of Europe’s leading micromobility providers, Tier and Dott, have officially merged operations under the Dott brand. This strategic consolidation, first announced in January 2024, marks a significant shift in the competitive landscape against industry leader Lime.

Why the Merger Matters

  • Scale for Sustainability: With notoriously thin margins in the micromobility sector, combining forces allows for improved unit economics and fleet expansion
  • Unified Operations: The merger creates a single technology stack, operating system, and user experience across all markets
  • Competitive Edge: The combined entity now boasts 250,000 vehicles across 427 European and Middle Eastern cities

“We’re not building a conglomerate,” emphasized Dott CEO Henri Moissinac. “This is about creating one optimized company with best practices from both organizations.”

What Users Need to Know

App Transition Timeline

  • Tier users will be gradually migrated to the Dott app on a city-by-city basis
  • Full transition expected by March 2025
  • In cities where only Tier operated, users will need to download the new Dott app

Fleet Updates

  • All Tier vehicles will remain in service, rebranded with Dott stickers
  • The combined fleet represents minimal overlap - the companies previously competed in just 17 cities

Key Performance Metrics

The merged company reports:

  • 10 million+ unique riders in the past year
  • 100 million trips completed (averaging 10 trips per rider)
  • Strong focus on local, frequent users as core customer base

“Rides per active rider per month is our most crucial metric,” Moissinac noted, highlighting the company’s strategy of promoting recurring usage through:

  • Affordable monthly passes (e.g., €4.99 Paris pass with €1.75/ride)
  • Service reliability improvements from combined operations

Financial Outlook

The merger was supported by a €60 million ($67M) funding round earlier this year. While currently cash-positive, leadership remains open to strategic investments:

“We have opportunities we could unlock with additional capital,” Moissinac stated, suggesting potential winter 2024 strategy reviews for 2025 expansion plans.

This consolidation represents a major step toward profitability in the challenging micromobility sector, creating a stronger compe***** to dominate European urban transportation markets.
