Strategic Collaboration to Boost U.S.-Sourced Battery Components

Toyota is taking a major step toward sustainable electric vehicle (EV) production by partnering with battery recycling startup Redwood Materials. The agreement ensures a domestic supply chain for critical battery materials, reducing reliance on overseas manufacturing.

  • Materials Supplied: Redwood will provide cathode material and anode copper foil for Toyota’s upcoming $13.9 billion EV battery factory in North Carolina, set to launch in 2025.
  • Recycled Content: The cathode materials will contain at least 20% recycled nickel, 20% recycled lithium, and 50% recycled cobalt, while the anode copper foil will be made from 100% recycled copper.

With 5 million Toyota electrified vehicles on the road today, this closed-loop system is poised for significant growth.
