Microsoft Releases Fourth Consecutive Windows 10 Preview Focused on Bug Fixes

Microsoft has rolled out Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 15060 for Fast Ring participants, marking the fourth consecutive update prioritizing stability improvements over new features. This release follows closely behind Build 15058, continuing Microsoft’s refinement of the upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update.

Key Improvements in Build 15060

Here’s what’s fixed in this iteration:

  • Settings Icon Fix: The Settings icon on the Start Menu no longer appears greyed out after initial use.
  • IME Visibility: Third-party Input Method Editors (IMEs) now correctly display in Settings post-installation.
  • Microsoft Edge Enhancements:
    • Resolved Pinyin IME errors in search boxes.
    • Fixed browser launch delays after crashes.
    • Addressed iframe issues in F12 Developer Tools.
  • UWP App Stability: Taskhost.exe crashes no longer block text input when using the Tab key in UWP apps.
  • Surface Device Support: Surface Pro 3 and Surface 3 users can now update systems with SD cards inserted (requires latest drivers).

Known Issues and Workarounds

While this build improves stability, several issues remain:

  • Language Packs: Installation is currently unavailable.
  • Update Restart Notifications: Windows may not prompt for restarts after updates. Manually check via Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • App Crashes: Apps/games may crash due to Advertising ID conflicts (affects accounts created in Build 15031).
    Fix: Delete registry key: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AdvertisingInfo.
  • Game Broadcasts: Live review windows may flash green during broadcasts (no impact on stream output).

Installation Troubleshooting

  • Error Code 8024a112: Restart your PC. If it hangs, power cycle manually.
  • Cancelled Updates: Delete registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\RequestedAppCategories\8b24b027-1dee-babb-9a95-3517dfb9c552.

Regional Limitations

Build 15060 is temporarily unavailable for:

  • Users in Brazil and Poland.
  • 32-bit versions of Windows 10 Home.
