Airbnb Introduces New Quality Badges for Top 1% and Bottom 10% Listings
Airbnb is rolling out a new set of quality badges to help travelers identify the best—and worst—properties on its platform. This update, part of Airbnb’s spring release, introduces labels for the top 25% and top 1% of listings, as well as a warning badge for the bottom 10% of low-quality stays.
How Airbnb Determines Quality Ratings
The new badges rely on a comprehensive set of metrics, including:
- Subcategory ratings (cleanliness, accuracy, etc.)
- Review sentiment analysis
- Host cancellation rates
- Quality-related customer service issues
Since implementing an enhanced hosting quality system in April 2023, Airbnb has removed 100,000 substandard properties from its platform.
Enhanced Review Sorting Options
Building on last November’s update that allowed sorting by most recent or highest-rated reviews, Airbnb now enables users to:
- Sort reviews by lowest rated
- Quickly identify potential red flags in property listings

Airbnb has made significant progress with its verification program:
- 1.5 million properties in top markets (U.S., Canada, Australia, U.K., France) will be verified by March 2024
- Verification combines AI technology with human review
- Plans to expand to 30 additional countries by Q3 2024
- Future updates will include photo and video verification tools for hosts
