Perry Coneybeer’s recent allegations against her former employer, Ripcord CEO Alex Fielding, have raised concerns about the state of workplace culture within the tech industry. In a Medium post published on February 2nd, Coneybeer alleges Fielding told graphic, sexual stories involving other employees, as well as instances of improper behavior throughout the company. The allegations also include a fellow employee making rape joke at a holiday party and subsequent termination.
Coneybeer’s account is not without corroboration. Her former boss, Kim Lembo, who was also let go on the same day, has confirmed that she witnessed some of the incidents described by Coneybeer.

Ripcord, a file digitization startup using robots to transform paper records into digital copies, has raised $85 million in total funding from notable investors such as Google Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, Legend Star, Lux Capital, Silicon Valley Bank, Telstra Ventures and Steve Wozniak. The company’s board of directors is currently investigating the allegations and taking appropriate action if needed.
Coneybeer plans to return to school in September as a sophomore. She is also currently looking for internships in tech with hopes that the industry can change. Her father, Rob Coneybeer, a prominent venture capitalist at Shasta Ventures, has expressed his pride for her strength and integrity.
As more allegations continue to emerge within the industry, it remains crucial to encourage open discussions on workplace culture and take steps towards creating a safe environment free from inappropriate behavior.
