More consolidation is occurring in the competitive world of backend developer tools. Today, CloudBees, a company well-known for supporting and providing services for the open source Jenkins continuous integration and delivery engine, has announced that it will acquire Codeship, another startup focusing on continuous integration and delivery within the dev-ops space.
The acquisition terms have not been disclosed by Sacha Labourey, CEO and co-founder of CloudBees. The entire team from Codeship will be joining CloudBees, and they will continue to serve their current customer base - which includes around 2,400 smaller organizations and 100,000 developers. Additionally, the Codeship brand will remain intact.
This move signals a growing trend within the industry where smaller vendors in developer services are being acquired by larger companies in order to increase momentum and business growth. CloudBees is looking to bolster its presence as a bigger player for future strategy and expansion.
CloudBees has been known for creating innovative solutions based on Jenkins, with Netflix being one of their most notable customers. This acquisition aims to expand those services into other environments, providing easier-to-use SaaS continuous integration and delivery solutions to growing market segments. The company will continue to serve different architecture types while also bringing more expertise in Clojure.
This acquisition is expected to close this month.
