Ebay has announced plans to shut down multiple standalone apps and focus on its main marketplace. The company will be shutting down eBay Now, eBay Valet, and Fashion apps in the US. These closures are part of a larger effort to streamline eBay’s operations and improve the user experience on its core platform. The functionality of these closed apps will be integrated into the main eBay app for iPhone, iPad, and Android platforms later this year.
Launched last summer as a mobile version of eBay’s ‘Sell for Me’ online service, eBay Valet allowed customers to snap a photo of their items with their phone’s camera and request a box for easy shipping. The standalone app will shut down in August, with the company noting that users can use eBay Valet on the web “in the meantime.”
In an email sent out to eBay Valet users, the company stated that the goal of these closures is to simplify selling experiences on eBay’s platform. However, these moves are also about refocusing resources and ensuring that eBay’s main marketplace remains strong following its split from PayPal in June.
