Leadership Shakeup at Indeed: Chris Hyams Steps Down as CEO

In a significant leadership transition, Indeed CEO Chris Hyams announced his resignation on Monday. The global hiring platform will welcome back former CEO Hisayuki Idekoba, who previously led Indeed from 2012-2018 before serving as CEO of parent company Recruit Holdings.

A Seamless Transition Plan

Hyams will remain involved as a board adviser throughout 2025 to ensure a smooth leadership handover. His tenure at Indeed spans 15 years, beginning in 2010 when he joined as VP of Product before rising to CEO in 2019.

Transformational Growth Under Hyams’ Leadership

In his departure statement, Hyams highlighted Indeed’s remarkable evolution:

  • 300 million monthly active job seekers (up from 100 million in 2015)
  • 200x revenue growth since 2010
  • 27 hires per minute facilitated through the platform (1 every 2.2 seconds)
  • 75+ million successful hires tracked since measurement began

“These numbers represent real people finding meaningful work,” Hyams noted. “Though we know our impact is even greater than what we can measure.”

A Homecoming for Idekoba

Idekoba, who originally joined Indeed in 2012, returns to steer the company’s next chapter. In an official statement, he praised Hyams’ contributions:

“Chris transformed Indeed from a job search engine into a comprehensive talent marketplace serving both employers and candidates. His leadership established the foundation for our continued success.”

What This Means for the Job Market

This leadership change comes as Indeed maintains its position as:

  • The world’s #1 job site by traffic
  • A critical platform in global workforce development
  • An innovator in AI-powered hiring solutions

The transition reflects Recruit Holdings’ confidence in maintaining continuity while adapting to evolving labor market dynamics.
