A hacker group named fail0verflow has successfully managed to run Linux on a Nintendo Switch. They shared a photo of the device running Debian, a distribution of Linux (via Nintendo Life). According to the group, there is a flaw in the boot ROM of Nvidia’s Tegra X1 system-on-a-chip. This means that any future software updates from Nintendo won’t be able to affect the boot ROM.

The only way for Nintendo to fix this issue would be to manufacture new Nvidia Tegra X1 chips. As a result, it is possible that the company will ask Nvidia to resolve the problem, ensuring that new consoles are not affected by this vulnerability. The hackers also suggested that running Linux on the Switch opens up possibilities for homebrew software and potentially pirated games.
