Google’s Kubernetes Engine (GKE) now allows developers to attach NVIDIA GPUs to their containers, making it easier to run machine learning applications and other workloads that can benefit from a GPU.
GPUs on GKE have been available in closed alpha for more than half a year. Now, this service is open to all developers who want to take advantage of the powerful graphics processing capabilities offered by NVIDIA's Tesla P100 and K80 GPUs.
The advantages of using containers with GPUs include the ability to easily scale your workloads up and down as needed. Most GPU workloads probably aren't extremely spikey, but in case yours are, this seems like a good option to evaluate.
Google makes it easy to monitor GPU jobs through its API and its Stackdriver monitoring and logging service. Overall, the Kubernetes Engine saw its core-hours grow 9x year over year in 2017, indicating that Google may have a winner on their hands with this powerful new feature.
