Lots of companies seek valuable insights from Chief Information Officers (CIOs), but gathering meaningful answers about products they use or budget priorities can be challenging due to their busy schedules. Pulse Q&A, a new startup in the Y Combinator Winter 2018 class, aims to change this by providing a chatbot platform where CIOs can share and crowdsource information.
The idea for Pulse Q&A originated from the co-founders’ experiences in previous startups. They needed to engage with hundreds of CIOs to find the right product-market fit, which took months to accomplish. The concept of a centralized platform that facilitates questions and answers among these professionals began taking shape.
Last year, Pulse Q&A was launched, attracting over 2000 CIOs through word-of-mouth marketing, social media advertisements, and email campaigns. The platform currently offers paid services to various target markets such as CFOs, CMOs, hedge fund managers, and journalists who seek insights about technology trends.
Mike Kail, a CTO and co-founder of security-as-a-service startup Cybric, has had previous executive stints at Netflix and Yahoo. He appreciates the private network Pulse Q&A provides for CIOs to discuss industry challenges openly without fearing public scrutiny.
While the company is still developing pricing models, Pulse Q&A offers a starting fee of $2500 for obtaining answers from five questions among one hundred respondents. Currently, they have around two dozen paying clients.
The founders credit their experience with Y Combinator as an invaluable resource that provides emotional support and guidance to early-stage startups like theirs. They plan to expand the platform’s reach beyond Facebook Messenger and its website to Skype for Business and Slack. Pulse Q&A aims to make it even easier for CIOs to ask questions, receive specific answers, and generate insightful reports.
