Popular file-sharing service WeTransfer has announced significant changes to its free tier, now capping users at 10 transfers per month. The update, already in effect, was confirmed via the company’s support page.
What’s Changing in WeTransfer’s Free Plan?
While the new transfer limit may disappoint some users, WeTransfer has introduced several upgrades to soften the blow:
- Increased file size limit: From 2GB to 3GB per transfer
- Unlimited portals: Collaborative folders for client work
- Password protection: Now available for all transfers
- Removed 5% fee: Eliminated on paid transfers (previously applied to user-sold files)

The changes follow WeTransfer’s July 2024 acquisition by Italian tech firm Bending Spoons. The company has overhauled its subscription model:
- Starter Plan: $6.99/month (300GB storage, free plan benefits)
- Ultimate Plan: $25/month (replaces previous Pro/Premium tiers)
