Apple Music has announced the expansion of its subscription music service to 82 new markets, bringing the total number of available countries to nearly all. This move comes after the launch of student discounts for the Apple Music service two years ago.
The current offer provides a discounted price for students in Israel, Malaysia, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, and Taiwan. The sale price is available for up to four years after an initial sign-up and can be renewed for additional terms as long as students are enrolled in their respective programs. Masters program students are also eligible.
According to a recent report by The Wall Street Journal , Apple Music’s streaming service was on track to overtake Spotify in the U.S., with both companies experiencing growth rates of 5% and 2%, respectively, per year. While Apple may be approaching Spotify in its home market, Spotify maintains a strong global lead over other music streaming services by having twice as many global subscribers.
Pricing has played a significant role in Apple’s gains in the music industry. The individual plan is priced at \(9.99, while the family plan permits up to six people to stream for \)14.99, offering better value compared to Spotify’s group account options.
