In a strategic move to enhance its game development ecosystem, Epic Games has announced the acquisition of RAD Game Tools, a veteran provider of middleware solutions for the gaming industry. RAD Game Tools, best known for its ubiquitous Bink Video codec (recognizable by its colorful startup logos in countless games), has collaborated with Epic for years.
“Our work with Epic goes back decades, and joining forces is a natural next step given our alignment on products, mission, and culture,” said RAD founder and CEO Jeff Roberts in the announcement.
