Rubrik, a data management startup providing backup and recovery services across cloud and on-premise environments, has acquired Datos IO, the specialist in NoSQL data backup.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed (we are asking).
Rubrik says that Datos IO will continue to be led by its co-founder and CEO, Tarun Thakur. The new business unit is called Rubrik Datos IO.
Rubrik acquires Datos IO to help expand its business in NoSQL databases where large, Fortune 500 organizations are adopting these technologies for digital transformation and AI initiatives.
This acquisition marks a leap forward for Rubrik as it looks to take on more ‘new’ deployments. In other words, with more and more going into the cloud, Rubrik had to follow.
Another point in common is that both companies share an investor - Lightspeed Venture Partners, where Sinha has also worked as a venture partner for years. It’s not clear how much of a role Lightspeed played in making the connection here (we are asking about this too).
Rubrik itself has raised around $292 million to date, with investors including IVP, Greylock, Khosla and Kevin Durant.
